Visitors: We will often book an author or illustrator for events such as World Book Day. Within a Mantle we also seek to invite people who will enrich our learning, such as someone who works on oil rigs or a farmer who is digging a new lake on their land.
Trips: All classes go on trips - from Reception visiting the library bus or a local farm, to Year 5 and 6 going to St Ives in Cornwall.
Sporting opportunities: We are really committed to enabling as many children as possible to take part in sports opportunities. We take advantage of the many fixtures and 'friendlies' that are put on in the local area - ten pin bowling, rugby, badminton.... We have recently introduced swimming for KS1 in addition to our core swimming (Year 3 and 4).
Piano lessons: We have a visiting piano teacher who parents can book lessons with. These happen on Thursday and Fridays in school.
The cafe: We have community lunches at least once per term and we are starting to timetable sessions whereby a small number of children help with the preparation of lunches. Currently this is called 'Pizza Thursdays' and Year 6 are trialling this for us.
Forest Schools: Year 5 have a whole half team of Forest School each year in the spring term.
Emergent interests: We are always listening to new ideas from the children and we try to respond to their wishes - such as installing a new slide, arranging visits from people with their pets, or starting a trading card club.
Botany: There is a gardening club on a Thursday for KS1 and we are always happy for the children to get involved with growing, especially in the raised beds and pots around the playground. Year 3 and 4 have a designated time within their regular curriculum to learn about plants and growing. This happens on three week rotations (alongside art and music).
